The forests of Westchester County NY are highly fragmented and bounded by parkways. In a normal year, the air traffic from the regional airports roars incessantly over the dawn choruses. Near Sleepy Hollow, the din from the Tappan Zee typically kicks up about 4 AM.

I have no idea what Westchester County sounded like in spring before the Tappan Zee bridge was built. Before airports. Before the loss of billions of birds. I am thankful that there is this window in my lifetime where the world is quiet enough to record early spring in Sleepy Hollow.
