A 10 hour continuous durational field recording taken in the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, released on a dedicated playback device.

Shangri-La was originally released on 3LEAVES in 2011 on DVD-R. At the time, optical disc was the most cost effective way to deliver durational sound pieces. However, playing sound-only discs on DVD players was uncommon and it made the listening experience challenging.

Today, cheap and ubiquitous single board computers (SBC) provide a far more compelling distribution and playback platform for durational recordings. This re-release and remaster of Shangri-La is the result of years of development with SBCs; first explored with the T : t ↦ -t releases and now available in very cost-effective, small production runs.

There are two editions available: hardware only and hardware + DAC. Each edition includes the self-playing hardware device, a power adapter with US plugs, and an ethernet cable. The hardware + DAC edition includes a quality combo headphone amp and DAC. The device can additionally serve content over DLNA/UPnP and SMB making it compatible with Sonos, Roon, and many other streaming renderers.
